It's 4AM. I can't sleep. Three weeks until our first bout. One week until classes and work resume.
Gah. Back to work.

Four weeks until my first official roller derby bout.
I feel like I'm going to vomit.
This is unlike any other sport I've ever participated in, but in a good way. Unlike basketball or soccer, I give this my absolute all. You can't half-ass roller derby, because if you do you will be demolished. You can't sidle up to someone and expect them not to plow over you. You can't roll over to the other team and say "Hey, my back is killing me today, can you take it easy?" This is a sport where if the other team sees you have any type of athletic brace on to stabilize, say an ankle, they will target you over anyone else. If an opponent sees you're a little wisp of a girl, you will be hit hard.
I've never bouted, but if I was the opponent, and I saw you with an ankle brace on, or a scared look in your eye, I would demolish you. Roll you over and not look back. If I saw that you're a little tiny thing with no muscle, I would target you whenever I could to make you feel like you don't belong on the track. Derby is a mental game as much as a physical one. You keep getting hit hard, you get demoralized. If you keep putting people down, you get a boost.
Roller derby is a sport.
It is definitely, without a doubt in my mind, the sport for me.

It's kind of sad that my first post of 2011 has to be like this...
Drama.
It infects us all, even when we're trying our damnedest to let it not. Women, are infected with a gene that makes it impossible to not care. I with menopause happened already so that maybe I wouldn't care so much.
I get involved. Obsessed might be another word for it. Involved to me means I care. When I care about something, it becomes intrinsic to me. I want to be the best. Whether is be a sport or a friendship, I want to be noticed. Finally, I am not noticed, but I am.
Suddenly the jokes I make, are not jokes. The laughter I hear is uncomfortable, and I care. I realize that I'm the thing I hate. I hate that guy who makes really awkward and inappropriate comments and suddenly, I'm him. I make people uncomfortable. I must. I thought I had been careful, but I could be wrong.
We will know our future when it comes.

Well, it's the last day of the year 2010... Actually, it's the last day in the final hours of this year. Interesting eh?
New Year's Resolutions were never my strong suit, nor were they something I ever set before, but I thought that this year it might be exciting if I did set some. They're only goals really... what harm could come of it?
1) I'd like to continue to be AWESOME! Come on, if you know me, you know I'm the bees knees!
2) Let's stick with this gym routine. Build up some upper body strength, work on endurance, and lose some body fat in the process! According to a BMI calculator, I need to lose some weight, so let's get on that too.
3) I'm going to eat three HEALTHY meals a day. No more pizza for dinner!
4) This roller derby thing, let's stick with it and totally work it. It's already done amazing things for my body, self-esteem, and relationships. Let's see what I can do for it in turn.
5) My apartment will stay clean this year. I will do laundry/dishes/various cleanings on a routine and continue to pick up after myself regularly.
6) I will finish my thesis.
7) I would like to extend forgiveness and apologies to anyone I've hurt before, or who have hurt me.
Sooooooo that's it for now! Have a safe New Year's Eve! :)
